Uplifting Lives of Underprivileged Children While Celebrating 20 Years of Impact

SELANGOR, August 17, 2023 - The Roche Children’s Walk 2023 milestone celebration commemorates two decades of dedicated efforts to uplift disadvantaged children globally. The ‘Walk’ symbolizes our way of giving back to communities to build a healthier future for children facing adversity. In Malaysia, over 1,000 Roche employees from the Pharmaceutical, Diagnostics and Services & Solutions division powered the annual fundraising event and raised RM75,000 to improve the lives of Rumah Perlindungan Safiyyah’s children.

The Roche Children’s Walk provides multiple avenues for Roche Malaysia employees to get involved—whether it’s by making a monetary contribution, or volunteering in the fund-raising activities. The past few months was dedicated to various activities like bid4Charity auctions, fun fairs, movie nights that also involved the children from the home, booth sales featuring home bakes as well as Roche Children’s walk merchandise such as t-Shirts sales.

In honor of the 20th global anniversary of the Roche Children’s Walk, Roche Malaysia employees also united their efforts to bring to life the heartfelt wishes of the children at Rumah Perlindungan Safiyyah. Their combined dedication led to the realization of all 23 educational and experiential dreams cherished by these children, encompassing everything from books to sports equipment and cherished personal items. This inspiring gesture showcased the power of collective compassion and left an indelible mark on the hearts of both givers and recipients alike.

The initiative concluded with a successful 2km walk involving over 400 Roche employees around the Sunway area, together with the cheque presentation ceremony to Rumah Perlindungan Safiyyah.

In her welcome address during the event, Deepti Saraf, General Manager of Roche (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd, the pharmaceutical division, said, “Today, we celebrate not just our past achievements but also the limitless potential for the future. Here in Malaysia, we have been running Roche Children’s Walk for nearly 10 years and we have lent a helping hand to more than 250 children and raised over RM300,000. This year's fundraising efforts surpassed last year's achievement of RM63,200, reaching RM75,000. I am immensely proud of the generosity and donations from our employees, which will be invested in supporting Rumah Perlindungan Safiyyah's financial needs for rent, utilities, and other expenses. It is inspiring to see how the collective efforts of our employees will have a positive impact on the lives of these young children.”

Speaking on behalf of Rumah Perlindungan Safiyyah, Puan Mia, the founding mother of the Home said, “We are truly grateful and appreciative for this funds raised from the Roche team in Malaysia, which will be helpful in meeting the needs of running the home - from providing the children with nutritious meals and educational needs amongst others. On top of raising funds for us, we are also blessed that Roche employees sponsored essential needs ranging from food, toiletries, clothes and stationery items. The children also enjoyed an evening out at the cinema recently, to watch Mission Impossible as well as played sports like badminton and futsal with Roche employees. Roche’s commitment has given our children hope, opportunities, and a chance for a brighter future. A big thank you to Roche.” The 20th anniversary of Roche’s corporate social responsibility is a remarkable milestone, underscoring the company's enduring commitment to creating a positive and lasting impact in society.
